Cannes Yachting Festival
When Dreams Meet Reality on the French Riviera – Cannes Yachting Festival
Better Late Than Never
I’ll start with a confession: despite my absolute love for yacht shows and visiting exhibitions around the world, I somehow never made it to the Cannes Yachting Festival – until this year. And now that I’ve experienced it firsthand, I understand why everyone in the industry kept telling me, “you have to be there.”
But here’s the thing – hearing about it isn’t enough. You really need to experience it for yourself.
Why Cannes is Different
After attending numerous boat shows across Europe, I can confidently say that Cannes holds a special place in the yachting calendar. This isn’t just another exhibition – it’s the place where literally everyone who exists or wants to exist in the yachting industry gathers each September.

The Setting Speaks Volumes
The French Riviera provides more than just a backdrop; it becomes part of the experience. Charming Cannes, stunning coastal landscapes, and impressive marinas create an atmosphere that’s impossible to replicate anywhere else. When you’re surrounded by such beauty, inspiration comes naturally.
One of the festival’s most brilliant features is how it spans two ports connected by water shuttle organized by the event itself. This isn’t just practical logistics – it’s a wonderful touch that keeps you immersed in the marine environment throughout the day. You’re constantly on or near the water, which reminds you why we’re all passionate about this industry in the first place.

A Designer’s Paradise
For someone in yacht design, Cannes is pure inspiration overload (in the best possible way). What made this show particularly exciting for me was that Cannes is all about world premieres. The creativity and cutting-edge designs that debut here often set the tone for the entire industry for years to come.
I’ll admit – I went a bit overboard (pun intended). I posed on every possible yacht, sat at every helm I could access, and yes, I took selfies in every exclusive bathroom I found. Who would resist? Each yacht told a different story, showcased different solutions, and presented unique approaches to design challenges we all face.

What Caught My Eye
Without giving too much away (I’m saving detailed insights for my next post), I was struck by several trends:
Multifunctional Spaces: Designers are becoming incredibly inventive with how every square meter serves multiple purposes. The line between different zones is becoming beautifully blurred – dining areas that transform into lounging spaces, sleeping quarters that convert to social hubs during the day.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living: More yachts featured retractable glass walls, fold-down balconies, and cockpits that truly extend the interior experience to the water. This trend speaks to a deeper desire for connection with the marine environment.
Personalization Over Standardization: What excited me most was seeing fewer cookie-cutter designs and more story-driven, personalized yachts. Each vessel becoming a true reflection of its owner’s lifestyle, dreams, and individual needs.

The Network Effect
Beyond the yachts themselves, Cannes offers something invaluable: genuine connections with people who share your passion. The conversations I had – whether over coffee between ports, on yacht decks, or during evening events – were as inspiring as the vessels themselves.
There’s a particular energy when you’re surrounded by people who understand the complexities of yacht design, who appreciate the subtle details, and who share the same drive to push the boundaries of what’s possible on water.

Why You Should Go
If you’re reading this and wondering whether you should attend Cannes Yachting Festival, let me be clear: yes, you absolutely should.
Whether you’re:
- A designer seeking inspiration
- A builder looking for trends
- A potential owner exploring options
- Simply someone who loves yachting
Cannes offers something unique that can’t be captured in photos, videos, or secondhand descriptions. The scale, the quality, the atmosphere, the networking opportunities – it all comes together to create an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
The Inspiration Continues
This was honestly the most inspiring boat show I’ve ever attended. My mind is buzzing with ideas, possibilities, and creative directions I want to explore. Something new will definitely come out of this experience – I can feel it.
The French Riviera has a way of making everything feel possible. When you’re surrounded by such innovation, such beauty, and such passion, it’s impossible not to dream bigger.

Final Thoughts
Looking back at my Cannes experience, I’m grateful I finally made it. This festival has earned its permanent spot on my industry calendar, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s edition.
To everyone who told me “you have to be there” – you were right. To everyone still on the fence about attending – trust me, it’s worth it.
The marine industry gives us so much joy and pleasure. Events like Cannes Yachting Festival remind us why we fell in love with yachting in the first place and inspire us to keep pushing forward, creating, and dreaming.

Stay tuned for my next post where I’ll dive deeper into the specific yachts and innovations that made the biggest impression on me at this year’s festival!

Marta
